A LITTLE WHITE IN THE WINTER

It was a major faux pas to wear white after Labor day. Major! Something that was actually frowned upon.

Happy December everyone!!!!!!

Super thrilled!!! The year is almost over, it definitely feels like winter, and well.... the festive season is here. Jingle THE bells***  Instead of the usual red that I so adore, I have been leaning on some white outfits lately. I might be transitioning to a minimalist!! YIKES!

It was a major faux pas to wear white after Labor day. Major! Something that was actually frowned upon. Thank God we don’t have to deal with that anymore. Who cares what colors you have on? Haven’t we all heard that style is all about you. It is very personal so if you want to wear white the whole year round. Good for you love. Work it, and have tons of Clorox as well.

For my look today, I went with black and white ensemble (again), pieces that I like to think save the day, especially when am undecided on what to wear. White jeans, off-white shirt, printed black and white trench coat, and some black heels. Very simple and can be worn pretty much any where.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

The most amazing thing with gratitude is that no one will ever tell you it is enough. People love feeling appreciated.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Helloooo everybody!!!

Am in such a joyful mood today. Must be the weather..

Anyway, it is Thanks giving and apart from getting ready to feast on some turkey, mashed potatoes, greens, stuffing….and so much more. I'm taking this moment to be grateful. For my family who loves me beyond measure and are ok with unconventional ways. For friends who are always there for me through the good times and the bad. Now those, those are the ones you keep really close. They are members of my family as well. For you my dear reader, who has been reading my posts from day one, or found a link along the way and decided to click on it. Thank you. I am also grateful for the gift of life, ever wondered how many people wanted to see this beautiful day and they didn’t? You have. Make it count.

Every time I get on social media or turn on the news channel on Tv, I get bitter, heated, or angry. Sometimes I am dumbstruck at the avalanche of negative news coming straight at me. I start wondering what is happening to our society. Have we lost our humanity?

I once saw a quote that said something along these lines, “Humanity is the keystone that holds nations and men together. When that collapses, the whole structure crumbles.”

To be honest I can give a dissertation on humanity but I believe I will be left with more questions than answers? I choose not to dwell on it today. I choose to dwell on the positive. The great things in life that make it worth living to see another day. The awesome things in life that will forever be cherished.

Hear me out. The most amazing thing with gratitude is that no one will ever tell you it is enough. People love feeling appreciated. It goes along way. Be it the waiter who refilled your glass of water at the restuarant, the guy who held the door open for you, the woman who told you politely that the dry flat tag on your shirt collar was peeking, the teenage boy bagging your groceries at Whole foods, or the gentleman that held the elevator doors for you. Saying thank you goes a long way. Dish it out. It’s not a jar of milk, it won’t run out.

With Thanksgiving celebration marks the beginning of the festive season. A season to be joyful and as that song goes it’s the most wonderful time of the year. May this celebration give us much more to be thankful for.

Gold and nude was my color palette today. Gold is always festive, and since I'm  in such a festive mood, my vintage skirt with gold prints will do. Paired it with a nude furry sweater and nude high heeled sandals.

As always thank you for stopping by.

Happy Thanksgiving my friends

BLACK AND WHITE

No one ever goes wrong with a black and white ensemble.

I attended the FALL INTO FASHION EVENT HOSTED BY BOULEVARD OF CHIC this past weekend by the Inner Harbor. I was invited as a VIP Blogger to cover the event which was such an honor. I met a great number of people and made a few connections. Networking is everything! Despite the drop in temperatures (it was 43 degrees but it felt like 19) the turn out was great. Read more on the event here....

(5 hours earlier....)

Ever had a day where nothing looks good on you. Absolutely nothing!! It can be quite frustrating. Especially if it is an event, a fashion event, where pictures will be taken, and a lot of mingling happening. I look at the pile of clothes over flowing my bed in utter dismay. This can’t be life. (Oh! About that pile of clothes. I started this thing on being organized, or at least, getting things organized.  You know what they say when you have things in order. It’s easier to find whatever you are looking for, you feel more at peace…bla bla bla.  Number one rule of getting things in order is to remember the extreme importance of returning things where you found them. Ha!)

So here I am, trying to figure out what to wear, the pile of clothes on my bed already forming an impressive mini-hill and I ignore the gentle voice in my head says something about returning things where I found them. The hangers are strewn on the floor, I can't find that stole I had on a minute ago, and I’m about to fall flat on the floor because of a shoe that I had kicked off earlier trying to put a few looks together!! My goodness!! ORDER  has walked out the door and it’s evil twin chaos is about to walk in.

Sadly, I don’t have the patience to put that first rule of thumb in good use. I recall no one ever goes wrong with a black and white ensemble. Boom!

(I usually know what I will wear in advance, and I at times, I even lay out the outfit a day before, but sometimes, those looks don’t look as good as I thought they did the day before**I might have gained weight overnight because the waist band on my pretty laid out skirt is too snug, must be the cupcake***…and on being organized, I am, at least I like to think that I am. It’s not the  “color coded, folded as the GAP store, hangers 2 inches apart, OCD CRAZY,” but organized all together.)

I decide to tackle my mini pile of clothes when I get back home. I still adhere to the rule of thumb (at the back of my mind) just not immediately because…who wants to be late for an event right?

So here I am in black and white ensemble because when all fails, black and white will always be there to save the day.

ONCE IN A BLUE MOON

I was looking at this beautiful cotton fabric thinking how the circular printed shapes resembled the moon. An orange crescent moon wrapped individually beside quadrants of blue full moons. Perfect title for someone who RARELY  posts outfits she has made.

Some of you reached out to me trying to figure out why I took a hiatus from blogging for a few weeks. Huge thanks by the way*

Truth be told, I had been draping and sewing my tail off. Much needed time to get back to the basics since half the time what I worked on was mostly crap. Patterns were off, draping was a disaster, seams and darts not aligned, don’t get me started on the zippers and sleeves. Most of my initial work looked like crap because I’d not been working on the craft, hence the rustiness. It was frustrating to say the least. I promised myself not to do “once in a Blue Moon” ROSHIE ANNE outfits, but rather have at least one every week moving forward.

YES, at least one.

It’s quite a daunting challenge considering I'd have to drape the design I visualized, make a pattern, then perfect the said pattern with muslin, finally work on the actual design in a fashion fabric of my choice.

But what’s life without a good challenge now and then?

I thought to myself that this is what my favorite author Malcolm Gladwell was talking about when he wrote about putting 10,000 hours in his book, "The Outliers."

Amazing read by the way.

So here I am rocking my, hold on, first Roshie Anne outfit of the year. Wait, what!! First?

Aaah, never too late to start.

The fabric above was used as a headwrap (see pic on my instagram page) a couple of month ago. Using the same fabric, I'd envisioned  a short sleeveless dress perfect for summer. The bodice and the skirt were draped separately to create the pattern, then the pieces were sewn together to make the dress. For such a vibrant color, I opted for neutral accessories, donning nude high-heeled sandals with a navy blue bag.

How could I forget my other accessory? A big bright smile to complete the look.

COOL COLORS AND THE LITTLE BLACK SKIRT

IMG_4167.jpg

Am taking some art classes at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), and we are currently painting landscapes, blending the use of cool colors like purples and ultramarine blues, with warm colors like burnt sienna, oranges, and amber. I couldn’t help infusing that color scheme to my outfit today. Perhaps I’ll be sharing a few paintings and sketches once in a while.

I’m a huge fan of impressionist painters like Degas, Monet, Mary Cassatt, Van Gogh, and Pissarro.  These painters not only painted modern life in its element, but they embraced unconventional methods of painting, which in the beginning was frowned upon by academic painters. Baltimore is a city that’s huge on art and I am looking forward to exploring the museums this summer. Additionally, the city hosts the Artscape. The largest FREE arts festival, that attracts 350,000 plus attendees over the three days. How awesome is that? This year's Artscape is from Friday, July 18th to Sunday, July 20th.

For my outfit, I donned a flouncy little black skirt, a blue menswear sweater, and wore orange heels as the accent color. If the weather got cooler at night, my purple pea coat would come in handy.
